What is Lactium®?

In collaboration with Nancy University, Ingredia Dairy Experts has developed Lactium®, a natural milk protein hydrolysate. Used in a variety of applications (food supplements and functional foods) throughout the world, Lactium® is an excellent ally in helping you to better manage your stress.

What is the active ingredient in Lactium®?

This is a decapeptide contained in milk protein hydrolysate called alpha-casozepin.

How does Lactium® work?

Lactium® acts on GABAa receptors at the benzodiazepine binding site via the decapeptide to reduce the perception of stress (find out more).

Has the effectiveness of Lactium® been clinically proven?

Lactium® was the subject of seven rigorous clinical studies conducted between 1999 and 2021 on 500 adult volunteers, all supervised by healthcare professionals. Those used biological means to confirm the effectiveness of Lactium® on the body.

Is Lactium® natural?

Lactium® is a natural ingredient because it is made from cow’s milk.

Is Lactium® dangerous to health?

Lactium® poses no health risk at the recommended doses. It does not cause any side effects: neither addiction nor sedation. Unlike benzodiazepines, which are notorious for their side effects, Lactium® is not addictive.

What’s more, it has no toxic effects on the body, even in high doses: it is completely natural and safe.

Can Lactium® be prescribed to children?

Lactium® is of natural origin and can be used at all ages, even by children.

Is Lactium® recommended for people who do sports?

Lactium® can be used before a sporting competition to better manage tension and aid sleep and concentration, as well as after the event to help the body recover. It is not listed as a forbidden substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

At what time of day should Lactium® be taken?

You can take Lactium® throughout the day in various forms, including capsules, drinks, chewing gum, tablets, etc., in line with the recommendations and indications contained in the usage leaflet. For example, you can take Lactium® before going to bed without risk of drowsiness.

Is there a risk for people with lactose intolerance?

People with severe lactose intolerance can consume 7 to 12 g of lactose per day. Lactium® contains approximately 0.6% lactose. Taking 150 mg of Lactium® per day corresponds to -0.9 mg of lactose. People with lactose intolerance can therefore consume Lactium® without worrying about possible discomfort.1

Can Lactium® be used to fight depression or anxiety disorders?

Lactium® can be associated to a behavioral therapy but it is not a drug. As a consequence, it can not replace any medical treatment prescribed to fight pathological anxiety or depressive illness.

When should Lactium® be taken?

During the different clinical studies in humans, Lactium® intake was done either in the morning or in the evening. In both cases, the efficacy of Lactium® was observed. In consequence, each person may adapt the intake, whether in the morning or in the evening, depending on his/her feelings and specific needs.
