What is Lactium®?
Developed by Ingredia laboratories, Lactium® is a milk protein hydrolysate. As a natural ingredient used in numerous products around the world, Lactium® is an excellent ally to help you manage your emotions.
What is the active ingredient in Lactium®?
It is the bioactive peptide contained in the milk protein hydrolysate: alpha-casozepine. By using a well-known digestive enzyme – the trypsin – Ingredia researchers have reproduced the baby’s digestive mechanism.
How does Lactium® work?
By means of a selective affinity for certain receptors in the brain, called GABAA receptors, Lactium® increases the activity of gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter well known for its inhibitory action on anxiety and its relaxing properties. (find out more)
Has the effectiveness of Lactium® been clinically proven?
Lactium® was the subject of seven rigorous clinical studies conducted between 1999 and 2011 on 500 adult volunteers, all supervised by healthcare professionals. Those used biological means to confirm the effectiveness of Lactium® on the body.
Is Lactium® natural?
Lactium® is an ingredient of natural origin as it is made from milk. Unlike benzodiazepines, Lactium® does not create any addiction, even at a high dosage. It therefore acts effectively and naturally.
Is Lactium® a danger to health?
Lactium® presents no danger to health at the recommended doses. It does not have any side-effects, in terms of either habituation or sedation. Unlike benzodiazepines, which belong to the anxiolytics family, Lactium® does not cause any addiction.
Neither does it have any toxic effect on the body, even at high doses. Being natural, it is totally harmless.
Are there any risks of allergenicity?
Lactium® is a milk protein hydrolysate and is therefore hypoallergenic. It contains very little lactose (<0.5%) and therefore presents little risk of lactose intolerance at the recommended dosage.
Can Lactium® be prescribed to children?
Lactium® is of natural origin and can be used at all ages, even by children.
Is Lactium® recommended for people who do sports?
Lactium® can be used before a sporting competition to better manage tension and aid sleep and concentration, as well as after the event to help the body recover. It is not listed as a forbidden substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
What are the recommended doses?
Clinical studies(1)(2)(3) recommend adopting a dosage which varies according to your symptoms and your emotional state:
- 150mg per day is the minimum recommended dose for one month.
- 300mg per day for two weeks, for faster action during a particular period.
- 600mg per day, for example one day before an exam and on the examination day itself for immediate action.

At what time of day should Lactium® be taken?
You can take Lactium® throughout the day in various forms, including capsules, drinks, chewing gum, tablets, etc., in line with the recommendations and indications contained in the usage leaflet. For example, you can take Lactium® before going to bed without risk of drowsiness.
